A high-bonding mineral based primer to control high suction backgrounds whilst remaining vapour permeable. Developed in partnership with Heidelberg Materials Socli.

Ironstone Mineral Primer

Ready for use silica mineral primer to consolidate problematic surfaces, internally and externally. Suitable for lime, silica and clay plasters before applying Ironstone top coat Renders and Plasters. Ironstone Mineral Primer creates a permanent bond on highly absorbent and low-pore, smooth, or organically modified substrates. The primer’s gritty texture creates a key for a new plaster or render to bond to.

Advantages:

  • High adhesion on smooth and porous substrates
  • Grippy grain texture with 0.4 mm texture grain
  • Evens out differing absorption and texture defects
  • Highly alkaline-resistant
  • Solvent-free

Ironstone Mineral Primer is ideal for older buildings where a pure mineral primer is required.

Preparation:

Carefully cover and protect untreated surfaces, in particular glass, ceramics, window sills. Prior to use add up to 10% water and stir well.

The substrate must be clean, dry, solid, and have good adhesion. It must also be free of efflorescent substances. Carefully repair defects with the same material and texture.

Thoroughly wash, brush off, blast or grind off old paint down to the pores of the plaster. Test remaining paint residuals for adhesion and bonding, sand to a matt finish as needed.

Application:

Apply with roller or broad brush as a uniform coat without overlap in a single pass. Blend at edges wet-on-wet. Wait at least 24 hours before coating with plaster. Thoroughly clean equipment, tools, and soiled clothing with water immediately after use.

Minimum application temperature: +8°C

Yield:

Approximately 0.4 kg  Ironstone Mineral primer per m².

Storage 12 month shelf-life if stored in cool and frost-free conditions. Seal partially used containers airtight and use up soon.
