Lime Mortar for Torching and Backpointing roof tiles. Made using mature Lime Putty, Sand, Hair and Fibres

Torching Lime Mortar

Torching Lime Mortar is fatty lime putty mortar with added hairs and fibres
which gives you a supremely workable mortar that retains breathability and
maximises vapour porosity to aid the transfer of moisture so preventing the
effects of damp.

Torching is a method of pointing / back plastering roof tiles and slates from the
inside to help prevent the tiles or slates slipping and becoming unstable. Its also an alternative to modern roofing membranes for repairing old heritage roofs
and on new eco builds.

Torching was often applied as a mortar fillet (often around 40mm) between the
tile / slate and wood batten. Alternatively, it can be applied as plastering layer
across the underside of whole tile / slate at around 12mm to also help with
insulation and moisture management.

  • Reduces tile movement due to wind
  • Very effective at preventing wind-driven rain entering the loft
  • Fibres assist to mitigate cracking
  • High tensile strength
  • Enhanced workability

A 35kg tub will yield approximately 5 to 6 liner meters if applied as a 40mm fillet
or cover 1m2 at 12-15mm

Do not use at temperatures below 5 degrees or above 30 degrees, or if freezing
conditions are predicted within the following weeks.
