Saint-Astier® NHL2, The Chalk Lime, is a 100% Natural Hydraulic Lime with no additives, ideal for repairing and restoring traditionally constructed buildings. Available in a 25kg bag.

Saint-Astier® NHL 2 Natural Hydraulic Lime 25Kg Bag

Saint-Astier® NHL2 is a 100% Natural Hydraulic Lime and is the weakest in strength of the three classifications for NHL. Available in a 25kg bag.

We typically advise using NHL2 or weaker to repair traditionally constructed buildings, as it creates highly breathable mortars and renders. This breathability allows moisture to pass through, helping to reduce moisture build-up, damp, mould and damage to the building fabric over time in solid-walled buildings where moisture is always present within the building fabric. However, Saint-Astier® NHL 3.5 or Saint-Astier® NHL 5 may be more appropriate for exposed locations requiring additional strength.

  • 100% pure Natural Hydraulic Lime
  • Contains no additives
  • White in colour
  • Allows for very fine finishes
  • Ideal for trowel finishes
  • Suitable for feeble substrates
  • Resistant to sulphates

Suitable for pointing, rendering, plastering, consolidation, grouting, hemp plasters, shelter coats, decorative finishes, adobe, lath work and cob. Before starting, always try on a small test area.

Mix with clean and well-graded sand at a mix ratio from 1:1.5 to 1:3, depending on the application, background conditions, size of the joint or the fineness of the sand. View our range of sands for lime pointing, rendering and plastering.

Do not use in temperatures below 5°C or above 30°C. Dampen substrates the day before and prior to application, allowing the surface water to be reabsorbed. Avoid rapid drying due to high temperatures, direct sunlight or strong winds by using protection and curing with a light water mist as necessary.

We always advise following best practices for curing and protecting fresh lime mortars and renders from direct sunlight and wind using hessian sheeting, which acts as a barrier between the freshly applied lime and the environment.
