@emmiesfarm Case Study

“Womersley's Ironstone range quite literally transformed our home.
I was recommended Womersley’s Ironstone range in 2024 while battling severe damp in our 500-year-old Grade II listed farmhouse. The property had been rendered, pointed, and plastered in cement, leaving it practically uninhabitable — the air was stale, our paperwork was damp and soggy, and the walls were covered in mould that grew back with a vengeance each time we cleaned it.
Our first task was to strip off the cement render and repoint the old stonework using breathable materials. Our builder suggested Womersley’s lime mortar, praising both the product and the choice of colours available. I chose the ‘Pebble’ shade — a soft, buff tone that beautifully complemented our stone — and ordered a few bags to get me started.
Once we took down the hessian, I was stunned by the result. The chunky aggregate in the mix gave a beautiful finish up close, and the colour looked like it had always belonged there. But the real magic was in the transformation of the house itself, within a week, the moisture levels noticeably improved, the air smelled fresher, and the mould had stopped growing back!
We spent the next few months working our way through the property, raking out walls, repointing with our trusty Ironstone Pebble and even doing some lime plastering with the Ironstone render range. The materials have truly revived our home.
Stumbling across Womersley's was the best thing that could have possibly happened during our renovation. The products are transformative, the price is fair, the team is wonderful and very knowledgeable should you need assistance. I can’t recommend them enough to anyone looking to breathe life back into an old building. I’ll be using them for many years to come.
