Renovating a Mud House

The Mud House was built using natural materials such as mud, clay, sand, straw and water, often formed into bricks and sun-dried before construction but this house was sculpted directly without forming bricks at all.

Sadly, a former owner decided to internally and externally cover the property with cement! This completely damaged the property over the years, causing severe damp issues. The new owner now wants to bring the property back to life and restore it as it should have been done all those years ago.

The property has now been rendered using our Cornerstone Insulating Render as a basecoat which offers low strength, high flexibility, high vapour permeability, and advanced thermal performance. This particular render was specifically designed to reduce heat loss in solid walls and older buildings, the property will now have significantly improved insulation and moisture management.

Our Ironstone Finishing Render was then used as a final top coat giving this a lovely smooth finish. Our ironstone finishing render is a premixed hydraulic lime that is easy to mix and apply. This product complements Cornerstone really well as it is breathable, durable, sustainable and natural, creating a high-performance render that withstands high-traffic areas and outdoor elements. The property will then be painted with our Beeck Renosil Paint ,vapor-permeable silicate-based paint.
